The Kona Fishing Charters is a 45′ Custom Monterey fully loaded with two QSM 11 Cummings engines and state of the art electronics such as Garmin 5212 GPS and Depth Sounder. Includes a Master Stateroom and a two bunk Crew Quarters with extra large head and shower. The bridge has two helm chairs and a large bench. Aloha friends of Kona Fishing Charters Sport Fishing

Last week was another great week here in Kona, Hawaii. Both the Kona Fishing Charters and the Kona Fishing Charters II are in the water and ready to go. We ran the Kona Fishing Charters II for several test runs and it performed remarkably. We are really looking forward to taking the Kona Fishing Charters II when the conditions are right for some live baiting. While in dry dock Captain Tony and master boat builder Larry equipped the Kona Fishing Charters II with 4 tuna tubes as well as a new fish box in the cockpit deck. Captain Tony rerouted the ice maker to the fish box and now we can slide our sport fishing catches straight in to the fish box from either side of the boat. No more ice bags for Carlton to pick up each morning.

The Kona Fishing Charters ( 45 Foot Monterey ) went on its first overnight adventure down the coast toward South Point. Captain McGrew, Carlton, Captain Tony, Ed and Craig set sail early Friday morning and returned Saturday afternoon. This happens to be the same weekend that Kona once again hosted the World Championship Iron Man competition. We thought about entering the competition but gave that fantasy up and opted to venture out for something we are good at. We made the right choice and were once again blessed on the sport fishing front. We dropped our lures right out of the harbor and had our first knock down outside of town. It was a smaller Blue Marlin and never hooked up. Within minutes we had another strike and again did not hook up. Fish score 2, Kona Fishing Charters 0. Little did they know that we were always going to let them go anyway. Captain McGrew continued his remarkable fish finding by taking us to the B buoy where we had a  300 lb plus Blue Marlin look at our lure, bite the lure and then promptly send it back to us. Now the score is Blue Marlin 3, Kona Fishing Charters 0. I am happy to report that was the last 0 we encountered. Now it was the Kona Fishing Charters’s turn. Captain McGrew moved us into Ono lane and we picked up 2 nice Mahi Mahi. It was getting to be dinner time and we looked for a good spot to anchor up for the night. Manuka bay was just the spot. After anchoring both the front and back we broke out our new bbq pit that fits in our rod holder. Quickly the crew assembled the bbq and we were on to grilling steaks, fixing our salads, and cooking our rice. What a good way to end a fabulous day. You may wonder why we did not have fresh fish? More to come on that idea. Before turning in for the night we put lights in the water and watched the remarkable blue stick fish circling the boat. Also we watched the Nenue fish come to the surface when the light was turned out and quickly disappear when the light came on again.

After a good nights sleep we were up at sunrise trolling south in Ono lane. We caught 2 more Ono.  Now back to Marlin fishing. Captain McGrew took us back toward Kona with no luck on the Marlin but he spotted a small floating log and were rewarded with 2 Ono and 1 Mahi Mahi. Next stop the harbor and high fives for team Kona Fishing Charters.

Now back to eating our fresh fish. At the suggestion of Captain McGrew we all gathered up on Tuesday at our local Chinese restaurant with fresh fish in hand. The restaurant cut up the fish and prepared a delicious meal Chinese style. It truly does not get any better than this. IHU NUI SPORTFISHING UNVEILS IT’S NEW FISHING FLEET

Aloha friends of Kona Fishing Charters. We are joining the blog world and this is our first one.  We have a lot to be thankful for and and have some exciting news on the Kona Sport Fishing experience. We have recently purchased two new boats for your enjoyment. Before we get to that we would like to express our appreciation to our loyal clients that have fished with us on our beloved 35 foot Bertram. We have sold the Bertram to a local fisherman and wish him the very best. Now back to our new boats. We have purchased a 40 foot Miller Custom and a  45 foot Monterey Custom. Both boats were located in South Florida and have a great history in catching fish. We have given the Monterey the name Kona Fishing Charters and the Miller Kona Fishing Charters II. We hope you will enjoy the new boats as much as we do bringing them to you. The Monterey was put in service around the first of October with immediate success. In its first week we landed a 150 pound Ahi tuna, a 450 plus Blue Marlin and a 700 pound Blue Marlin. Not bad fishing. I hope you wish you were here! We put the Miller in the water October 7th after making it Kona Sport Fishing ready. Both boats have air conditioned salons, spacious cockpits and wonderful bridges. All electronics are state of the art to go along with our extraordinary team of Captain McGrew Rice alongside Carlton. While we are excited about our new boats we are more excited that McGrew and Carlton are still in charge. September and October have been great fishing months. However, McGrew always reminds us that the best time to fish our beautiful calm waters is whenever you can make time to visit. We are having the new boats photographed professionally and will post to our website as soon as we can. We are getting ready for the holiday season and look forward to the return of the humpback whales and their babies. The dolphins are still swimming in our fishing waters helping us locate the Ahi tunas. For those who followed this summers hurricane we are happy to report that our Harbor was protected and safe throughout the storm. We did miss a day of fishing, a small inconvenience. We hope you are having a pleasant fall wherever you live and are also getting geared up for Thanksgiving. If turkey is not on your menu we recommend trying fresh Tuna, Spearfish or Ono preferably caught on an Kona Fishing Charters fishing day.
