Do I need a Fishing License in Hawaii?

Yes, Fishing Licenses are required in the State of Hawaii for non-residents ages 15 or older.

The licensing fee is $20.00 USD (1-Day); $40.00 USD (7-Day); $70.00 USD (Annual)

Fishing licenses are valid from the date of issue, so please remember to purchase your fishing license on the day, week, or year you plan to be fishing. Dates cannot be changed.

Fishing licenses are needed for all forms of fishing in the State of Hawaii including but not limited to: Shoreline Fishing (Beach, Docks, Piers), Offshore Fishing (Boat, Kayak). ‘Fishing’ Includes Rod and Reel, Spearfishing, Netting or Trapping any form of Marine Animal including Fish, Lobster, Crab, Opihi (Limpets), Sea Cucumber, Coral, etc; Including Seaweed, Seeds or any Animal Product.

It is unlawful for any non-resident of the state who has attained the age of fifteen, except members of the armed forces of the United States on active duty in the state and their spouses and minor children, to fish for, take, or catch any marine life for noncommercial or recreational purposes without first obtaining a non-resident recreational marine fishing license.
